When Hedi Slimane, AKA ‘the prince of darkness,’ was first appointed creative director at Saint Laurent Paris, the news was received with divided opinions. The fashion industry wasn’t quite sure what to think. But this has only proved that any press is good press.
Hedi Slimane is just too cool to be knocked down by a few harsh critiques. And it certainly hasn’t stopped celebs from piling on his designs. His loyal VIP followers have made quite the impression on shoppers, turning the luxury house into one of the most coveted fashion brands.
According to Bloomberg, Saint Laurent sold way more dresses than predicted in the second quarter of the fiscal year. Sales for the luxury brand rose 29 per cent, surpassing the 22 per cent estimate. With practically all of Hollywood donning Saint Laurent, it’s no surprise that sales have rose that much.
Perhaps it was Slimane’s decision to move the creative studio from Paris to LA that has influenced his clout among the VIP crowd. Or perhaps it’s just down to the ultra-cool collections he just keeps churning out.
The real question is who isn’t wearing Saint Laurent Paris? While that quandary would produce few options, we’ve decided to take a look at who is:
