Hilary broke the news to chat show host Ellen DeGeneres and the TV show audience during an appearance earlier this week.
After Ellen DeGeneres asked the mum-to-be if she knew the sex of the child, Duff replied, ‘I do, but I haven't told anyone yet. I wanted to tell you first.’
The starlet made Ellen try and guess with a series of questions, but the host soon gave up, saying, ‘…I don’t have a clue. I’m just going to guess a boy.’
The 24-year-old actress confirmed, ‘Yes! It's a boy! Good job. I had feeling it was a boy the whole time.’

Before Duff knew the sex of her baby she told OK! Magazine, 'the countdown has begun. Every single day, I’m like, "Oh my gosh, seven more days!" I’m so not the person who could wait and have it be a surprise.’
'I give them respect, but I don’t know how people do that,' she continued. 'I need to be totally prepared. I think it’s going to help me feel even more connected to it, to know what it is.'
Hilary, who is now four months gone, hasn’t slowed down since finding out she was pregnant, and has only just finished and published her second novel, Devoted.
In a recent interview, Duff said, 'Being pregnant every day is a little bit different. Sometimes you’re feeling great and sometimes you just like could cry at the drop of a hat. I handle it as best as I can I think.'
The actress turned author also spoke of her hubby, ice hockey player, Mike Comrie, saying he had been 'very supportive' of her literary efforts and her pregnancy, including her cravings.
Duff said, 'when I get something on my mind I want, I want it now, I'm ferocious. He'll go and do food runs and coffee runs for us which is really sweet. He helps out a lot but he stays out of the writing.’
