Universal Pictures and Focus Features have confirmed the appointment of under-the-radar scriptwriter Kelly Marcel for the film adaptation of the smash erotica hit, Fifty Shades of Grey
The Fifty Shades of Grey movie screenwriter as been confirmed by Universal Pictures and Focus Features as
under-the-radar scriptwriter Kelly Marcel.
Relative newcomer Marcel is best known in the industry for writing TV series Terra Nova as well as the screenplay for Saving Mr. Banks, the upcoming film telling the story of Walt Disney’s 20-year struggle to pursue the film rights to Mary Poppins from author P.L. Travers, which will star Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson.
Fifty Shades author E.L. James announced the appointment of Marcel on her Twitter account, writing: ‘Hi guys, I’m thrilled to announce we have a screenwriter for Fifty Shades of Grey,’ along with a link directing followers to further details on the Fifty Shades of Grey The Movie Facebook page.
Kelly Marcel later took to her Twitter page to post: ‘Beyond thrilled to be jumping aboard the 50 Shades train. Very exciting!’
One of the film’s producers, Mike DeLuca, praised Marcel’s writing, saying: ‘Kelly’s work demonstrates her flawless structural technique and passionate commitment to emotion, humour and depth of character, which is particularly visible in the celebrated screenplay for the upcoming Saving Mr. Banks.’
While another Fifty Shades movie producer, Dana Brunetti, added: ‘We were all taken with the depth and passion of Kelly’s engagement with the characters and world E.L. James has created, and we knew she was the right person to augment our Fifty Shades family.’
For months, countless rumours have been circulating about who will play the lead roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele… let’s hope this news means official casting will begin soon.
