Beautifulpeople.com, which only admits people who look fabulous, turfs off 5,000 members who overindulged at Christmas

The networking website beautifulpeople.com, which has a strict ban on 'ugly people', has expelled more than 5,000 members for putting on weight over Christmas.

The website, which claims 550,000 members worldwide, says it acted after users noticed 'fatties roaming the site'. These people had uploaded festive pictures of themselves which, the site says, showed they had 'let themselves go' over Christmas.

Most of those kicked off were from the US, Canada, and the UK, where 900 members found themselves out in the cold.

Greg Hodge, managing director of the site, said, 'In the UK and Canada, Christmas and the New Year are all about over-eating, over-drinking and watching TV on the sofa.

'It's no wonder that so many members have been expelled from the network. We hope they will be back after shedding the festive pounds.'

Members judged to have 'let themselves go' were sent back to the application stage, where they have to post a photograph and be assessed by members of the opposite sex, reports the Mail.

The vast majority who were rejected were sent details of boot camps, and invited to apply again when they have got themselves back in shape.
