Anne Hathaway is certainly trying to fill some big shoes this year – first with her role as Catwoman in the new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, and now with the female lead in the musical remake of Les Misérables.

To be honest we weren't that sure the American actress, could sing, but before her Hollywood fame came a few stage roles, which obviously impressed Les Mis casting directors enough to give her the lead female role of Fantine.

The hit musical celebrated 25 years of performances in London last year with celebrity appearances from the likes of Nick Jonas, Matt Lucas (even Justin Bieber has reportedly been scouted to join the West End cast).

Now Victor Hugo's classic set in 19th century France, is finally coming to the big screen with a big budget movie due to be released in December 2012.

The 28-year-old Anne will co-star alongside Hugh Jackman, as male lead Jean Valjean, and Russell Crowe as Inspector Javert. The Oscar-winning King’s Speech director, Tom Hooper, will be behind the camera and Helena Bonham Carter will play Madame Thenardier.

Anne Hathaway’s big solo number in the musical is I Dreamed A Dream - the song that became a Youtube sensation after Susan Boyle auditioned with it on Britain’s Got Talent.
