High street retailers have sold more lingerie than ever after the success of the raunchy 50 Shades of Grey novel
The lingerie industry is benefitting from the success of Fifty Shades of Grey as a record £1.5bn worth of underwear have been shifted this year.
Thanks to the raunchy erotic novel, women have been flocking to shops like Ann Summers, Victoria's Secret and M&S to buy lacy lingerie to wear in the bedroom.
Ann Summers has seen sales boosted by 78 per cent, while M&S has experienced sales of stockings sore by 40 per cent.
Victoria's Secret has just opened its first shops in the UK.
According to laundry specialists Dr Beckmann 61 per cent of women they polled said scenes from Fifty Shades of Grey had encouraged them to buy sexy lingerie.

It's not only lingerie shops which have reaped the rewards from the erotic novel craze - sex toys have also seen a boost in sales.
