This Hollywood actor is tipped to play Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid live-action remake

And we officially cannot wait.

Henry Cavill Prince Eric

And we officially cannot wait.

From Cinderella, Maleficent and The Jungle Book to the most recent box office hit, Beauty and The Beast (raking in over a billion dollars FYI), it's safe to say that the Disney live action remake formula clearly works. It's hardly surprising therefore that there are over a dozen more in the pipeline.

That's right - all of our favourite Disney films from Mulan, Mary Poppins, Snow White and Aladdin, to The Lion King, Dumbo, Peter Pan and Pinocchio, will be getting a revamp and returning to our screens in live action form. Even Winnie the Pooh, Tinker Bell and Cruella De Vil are on the list.

The most talked about however, is The Little Mermaid, set to come to the big screen in the next few years.

While there is no release date as of yet, the composer behind the original soundtrack, Alan Menken, is set to return, even composing new songs for the adaption.

The question on everyone's lips this week however is casting, with A-Listers signing up to star in Disney live action remakes, left, right and centre. Emma Stone is confirmed to play Cruella in the 101 Dalmatians remake, Emily Blunt has already started filming as Mary Poppins and even Beyonce is tipped to play Nala in The Lion King.

Henry Cavill Prince Eric

It isn't the role of Ariel however that has got everyone talking, it's Prince Eric, with Disney fans across the globe already championing their top pick for the role: Henry Cavill.

The 34-year-old actor, best known for his role as Superman, seems to be the clear favourite, with fans tweeting their support for him to be cast in the role.

It looks like the Prince Eric doppelganger should have this role in the bag, but seeing as he's also signed up to Mission Impossible and is one of the favourites to step into Daniel Craig's shoes as James Bond, who knows if he'll have the time.
