Katie Holmes opens up about how that cashmere bra made her an overnight fashion influencer

After keeping a relatively low profile for the past few years, Katie Holmes has burst back onto the scene. In fact, she is arguably one of the most talked-about women of 2019.

And while her name has been spreading across the world for her shock split from actor Jamie Foxx and her sweet outings with daughter Suri, it’s actually one particular fashion look that propelled her to influencer level overnight.

Yes, you know the look we mean - the cashmere bra and cardi ensemble.

Katie was photographed hailing a taxi earlier this year, with her outfit - a Khaite cashmere bra and buttoned cardigan set - teamed with blue jeans, a black shoulder bag and shades, going viral.

In fact, the Khaite cashmere bra sold out immediately, forcing people to go to extreme measures to get their hands on one.

'I, like many of my fashion peers, have become quietly obsessed with Katie Holmes, ever since she was papped wearing that matching Khaite cashmere bra and cardigan combo,' says our Digital Fashion Editor Penny Goldstone. 'It was simple yet unlike anything sartorial I’ve seen before, and thus Katie Holmes became a fashion icon of our time.

'Naturally, I had to emulate her style, and suddenly there was nothing I wanted more in the whole wide world than a cashmere bra. Sadly, Katie’s is now sold out, and at $500, it is a *little* out of my price range. I was chatting with Katherine Ormerod on Instagram, and she joked that I could make one out of an old M&S jumper, and that, as they say, was a lightbulb moment. My sister, who is less hopeless at sewing as I am, has kindly offered to help me make one, so watch this space.'

But did Katie herself know that the look was about to go viral? Not in the slightest we found as she opened up to Vogue about becoming a viral fashion sensation.

‘No,’ she claimed when asked if she saw the buzz coming, going on to explain why she had bought the set in the first place.

‘It was very comfortable and easy and I think [Khaite] do such a good job with creating beautiful luxury items. They are very accessible and classic so you can have it for a long time, and I like to shop that way.’

She continued: ‘I’m not always buying new stuff and I can wear it again.’

Be right back - we’re officially going to join the waiting list for a Khaite bralette.
