I love a designer buy as much as the next person (check out the accessories everyone was wearing at London Fashion Week) but I find that the items people get the most excited about are actually the high street ones. Something about the fact you don't have to take out a small loan to afford them.

Case in point: the H&M power suit I wore on day two of LFW. So many people asked me who it was by, to which I whispered conspiratorially 'it's H&M'. Cue eyes widening and instant virtual shopping, because at just £65, it's an absolute steal.

It got picked up by countless street style photographers, as well as fashion sites like Who What Wear, who also spotted it on the streets of New York (thanks guys).

So why is the suit so great you ask? Well, with its padded shoulders, nip 'n' flare waist and slighted flared trousers, it's completely on trend, while the houndstooth motif makes it fairly timeless.

It's super versatile too. I wore mine with monochrome mules and a green bag for a pop of colour, but you could layer the blazer over a roll neck jumper (yellow is very in at the moment), and swap the heels for trainers or a chunky boot.

Shop now: Fitted jacket for £39.99 from H&M

Shop now: Tailored trousers for £24.99 from H&M

Shop now: Cigarette trousers for £19.99 from H&M

You can get the jacket on its own - wear with flares or cut off mum jeans - or with the matching trousers, which come in a cigarette or slightly straight version.

Buy it now or regret it later.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
