Scarlett Johansson reveals she was in the running for Anne Hathaway’s part in Les Miserables

Scarlett Johansson usually prefers to keep her career hiccups out of the press. But today she's broken Hollywood protocol and has spoken about the big Les Miserable role she’d dreamed of getting, but lost out to Anne Hathaway.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON STUNS AT OPENING ON BROADWAY PLAY

Speaking to Broadway.com the A-lister has a refreshing moment of honesty and spoke about her failed attempts to star in the film adaptation of the musical.

Scarlett said: ‘I sang my little heart out.’ When asked if she was nervous during the audition she denied this straight away adding: ‘No, are you kidding? The jazz hands kid inside me was just over the moon!’

Despite her best jazz hands, it did not go to plan and Scarlett Johansson lost out on the role of Fantine, which later went to Anne Hathaway.

She was quick to explain why she failed to join the film’s cast saying: ‘I auditioned with laryngitis. I did everything I could to, like, not have laryngitis.'

Far from being even just a little bitter that she missed out, Scarlett was instead very complimentary about Anne Hathaway’s BAFTA-winning performance.

‘I think, looking at the film now, there's no possible way I ever could have topped that performance,' she admitted. 'It was perfect and I think fateful and meant to be.’

But will an Oscar also be written in the stars for best supporting actress nominee, Anne Hathaway?
