Royal expert claims you're more likely to bump into the royals if you fly budget

When the royals travel, it's usually in style - Kate Middleton's dresses get their own seats on the plane, and the Queen even flies with her own special Earl Grey teabags. Fancy.

But despite the recent private jet controversy, Prince Harry has often kept it low-key and travelled on commercial flights. He even managed to keep it quiet when travelling to Nice with Meghan Markle before they tied the knot. Prince William and Kate have also been known to fly budget, and they were onboard a FlyBe flight to Aberdeen earlier this year.

According to the experts, the royals are more likely to fly with the public going forward - so if you're a frugal flier you may just bump into them.

During a Channel 5 documentary, Secrets of the Royal Flight, aviation journalist Keith Wilson explained that they'll be swapping private jets for budget airlines in future.

'The princes are probably two of the most down-to-earth members of the royal family that could exist,' he said.

'So for them to go and use a budget airline to get somewhere quickly recognises a certain sense of responsibility. Why not? Good for them.

'Aircraft are available from the Royal Air Force but I think the future of long-distance travelling is that the Royal family will continue to use state of the art commercial aircraft in the ultimate luxury.'

Emily Andrews, royal correspondent, is also convinced that commercial flights will be the way forward for the royals.

'I think that for their public duties the younger royals will definitely continue to travel commercially because it is more cost-effective, and then normally what happens is they get an upgrade into first class,' she said.

So the next time you book your bargain Ryan Air sale flight to Europe, keep your eyes peeled.

You could just be sharing the cabin with royalty.
