Robert Pattinson's new movie – based on the story of the Saddam Hussein manhunt – has finally got a director. Will he take Rob to Iraq?

Robert Pattinson's new movie might see him head to Iraq for a few months.

The actor is playing the lead in Mission: Blacklist, which tells the story of the Saddam Hussein manhunt back in 2003, and the new director could take Rob all the way to the Middle East to make the movie as authentic as possible.

It was revealed that our dear old Robert would take on the lead role of real-life military interrogator Eric Maddox last year when a movie poster featuring the star was leaked online. Entitled Mission: Blacklist, it carried the tagline 'In a world of lies only one man could see the truth.' It's been announced today that a new director has finally come on board, meaning we're one step closer to realising Rob's plans for the new year.

According to Deadline and Empire Online, Jesper Ganslandt will direct the movie, and he's got a huge job to do - as the movie is already being tipped for 2015 Oscars success, despite the fact that they haven't started filming yet.

Back in September last year, Rob spoke openly in an interview about the film's original director Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire and their mutual desire to film in the war-torn country. He said: 'The director is there now and I want to do it there. Obviously it’s quite difficult to shoot there. I think it’s a fascinating country.

'The director has been sending me pictures of the actual palaces where the US army was based and they’re beautiful. Just stunning. They look like Kubrick sets and they’re all empty just sitting there.'

Hmm, we're not sure we'd be happy to see Rob head to Iraq - or be so far away from us, for that matter. But it's understandable the star would want to escape - he's had a hectic few months being linked to a string of Hollywood women, including Katy Perry, Riley Keough, Kristen Stewart (yes, again) and his Dior Homme ad model, Camille Rowe.

Next week he'll head to Toronto for a few months to film Maps To The Stars with John Cusack and Julianne Moore. That boy's got some air miles...
