Rihanna has been getting philanthropic in the giving season, and recently made a generous donation to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s radiotherapy department in memory of her Gran Gran Dolly, who passed away in June
‘Tis the time of year to give, and it looks like Rihanna got into the holiday spirit, donating the very generous sum of $1.75m to a local hospital in Bridgeport, Barbados in honour of her beloved grandmother, Clara ‘Dolly’ Braithwaite, who passed away in June after a battle with cancer.
Rihanna’s donation to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital‘s radiotherapy department paid for three vital pieces of equipment worth over $3.5million Barbados dollars, and the radiotherapy wing has been renamed the Clara Braithwate Centre for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine.
The singer visited the hospital this weekend with her mother, Monica Fenty, and Clara’s husband, Lionel Braithwaite, and looked chic in a white shirtdress and gold strappy heeled sandals.
The singer told E! News: ‘This was my way of giving back to Barbados, in a form of philanthropy, by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program…
‘I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done to save lives or at least extend them.’
The 24-year-old has been vocal about how close she is to her family, particularly her grandmother, and posted: ‘Goodbye #grangranDOLLY get your beauty rest until I see you’ after Dolly’s death in June on her Twitter account.
Among her many inkings, RiRi also has a tattoo of her late grandmother’s name on her chest.
Looks like yet another reason to love Rihanna.
