It seems that 2017 is the year that celebrities are opting for quiet, super secret wedding ceremonies in place of the usual high-profile events that secure magazine spreads and take up our Instagram feeds.

We found out that Adele is already married to Simon Konecki when she let it slip during one of her Grammys acceptance speeches, and earlier this month Dave Franco and Alison Brie admitted that they also had a secret and not-so-big day.

So it's not really surprising that people are speculating over Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's couple status. They set tongues wagging last year when Miley was spotted wearing an enviably large ring on her engagement finger, and reports that they got married over the New Year were rife with sources claiming that the couple were donning sparkly metallic pants in place of traditional wedding attire, and that their families had flown over for the holidays to attend the last-minute shindig.

However, Miley's mum, Tish, has come forward to address the rumours in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

She spoke about the stir that Billy Ray Cyrus' recent Instagram had caused (he had posted a picture of his daughter with the caption 'I'm so happy... You are happy,' which sparked a frenzy), saying: 'I was like, 'huh? What do you mean? If Miley was getting married it would not be in that dress.'

She also added: 'When your kids are happy, it does make you happy.'

Is it all an elaborate cover up? Who knows. But we do love those metallic pants...
