Meghan Markle wants a rescue pup for baby Archie to grow up with

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex already have two dogs, but it looks like they're planning to add a rescue pup to their family unit so that baby Archie grows up with his own pet pooch.

Meghan is known for her love of hounds and was made patron of animal welfare charity Mayhew earlier this year. She visited the centre in Kensal Green, North West London when she was six months pregnant and gave a touching speech about pet adoption, saying: 'As a proud rescue dog owner, I know from personal experience the joy that adopting an animal into your home can bring. The role that we, as people, play in rehoming and rescuing these animals is vital, but the role of organisations such as Mayhew is unparalleled.'

When asked if she wanted to take an adorable Jack Russell named Minnie home with her at the time, she replied: 'We can’t take another dog before the baby. Our hands are full.'

However, it looks as though she may have changed her mind as according to The Sun, Meghan is keen to visit rescue shelters in Windsor to pick a cute canine for her son.

A royal source said: 'Meghan really wants a dog with whom Archie can associate his childhood.'

They continued: 'Rescue dogs are a huge passion for her so the pull to adopt rather than buy a puppy is far stronger.

'Meghan really wants a dog with whom Archie can associate his childhood. She hopes they strike up an incredible bond and Archie can make plenty of memories.'

The Duchess was reportedly devastated when she had to leave her Labrador-German Shepherd cross rescue dog, Bogart, in Toronto when she moved to the UK as he was deemed too old to travel. However, she was able to bring her beagle named Guy across the pond.

Harry and Meghan also have a second pooch, and while there have been rumours of the dog's moniker and breed they recently joked that everyone 'keeps getting her name wrong'.

So we're guessing there won't be any snaps of the new pup on their official Instagram account. Sorry.
