Cheryl Cole meets Simon Cowell amid reports she will return to the X Factor

It looks like Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell have finally buried the hatchet, after the pair met up in LA

Simon Cowell is 'desperate' to bring back nation sweetheart Cheryl Cole in bid to boost flagging X Factor UK ratings, according to reports.

It seems there's no love lost between frenemies Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell, despite the fact he senstationally axed her from The X Factor USA in 2011 after just four rounds of auditions.

The 29-year-old singer has ignited rumours she could be returning the the UK version of the show after she was spotted arriving at Simon Cowell's Los Angeles mansion on Wednesday night where she spent three-and-a-half hours.

With Gary Barlow dropping hints that this year could be his last on the X Factor as a judge, bookies are now betting on who will replace him, and sources say Simon is desperately trying to entice Cheryl back.

A source told The Sun newspaper: 'The money on the table would be a fortune — at least double what she got last time. She could have what she wanted.'

A source added to The Sun: 'He doesn’t want to see X Factor going down the way it is and he thinks Cheryl is the next best thing to him.

'Simon wants to get rid of Tulisa so this meeting will be part and parcel of that.'
