The music couple joined Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt near the top of the annual power list
Beyoncé and rapper husband Jay-Z have surged into the top three most powerful couples in the world, according to Forbes' annual list.
The music power players were placed in third spot in the 2013 rankings with the magazine citing their financial clout and high profile friendships as reasons for their high position. US president Barack Obama and wife Michelle Obama topped the list and Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates and his spouse Melinda came in at number two.
Other star names from the world of entertainment to make it into the top 10 include Hollywood A-listers Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (number 5), TV host Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi (6), and Columbian singer Shakira and footballer boyfriend Gerard Piqué (9).
Former US president Bill Clinton and his former US Secretary of State wife Hillary were named the world's 8th most powerful couple, while the Queen and Prince Philip were deemed 15th.
The list also featured several names from the fashion industry, including designer Miuccia Prada and her husband Patrizio Bertelli who together run the luxury fashion label (10), Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen and her American footballer hubby Tom Brady (13) and designer Diane von Fürstenberg and her media mogul husband Barry Diller (14).
