BBC newsreader Kate Silverton has announced that she is expecting her first child with husband Michael Heron.

The 40-year-old television star told followers on Twitter about her happy news with a series of Tweets yesterday: ‘We had some very unexpected – but lovely news just recently….. I am pregnant ;-)’

The mum-to-be also revealed that the pregnancy had been both a surprise and a miracle.

‘Ooh that felt odd to announce! We gave up hope of having a biological family last year so this feels something of a minor miracle…’ she shared.

Now four months pregnant, Kate confided that the first three months had been ‘shaky’, but thanked followers for their congratulations.

‘Hello all – we’ve had such a super day today and thank you again for your lovely messages.

‘Feel wonderfully overwhelmed and just a teeny bit scared having it all out in the open – but know that happens to every early parent! I’ll keep you posted and I love hearing your inspirational stories too – thank you…’

    Congrats Kate!
