So many options.

Part of the fun of going away is planning your packing list and holiday wardrobe, and finding the best swimwear is absolutely key to this, whether you're going to Ibiza or staying in the UK. (Don't forget to pack those SPF moisturisers and sunglasses either.)

Given it is the start of March it might seem early, but believe me now is the best time to shop for swimsuits and bikinis, since all the designers and high-street stores have are getting ready to launch their SS24 collections.

So what swimwear trends can we expect to take over this summer? Cut outs are always on trend as are bright, summer ready prints. If you look to the celebs for inspo, 90's shapes are still in vogue so opt for a micro triangle shaped bikini or simple bandeau. When it comes to swimsuits, piped edging will give a sports luxe feel or try a tankini instead. They're back on trend and offer all the coverage of a swimsuit yet with more mix and match options.

Without further ado, keep scrolling to shop my edit of the best swimwear, including the styles that will suit every taste.

Best once-peice swimsuits:

The classic swimsuit is perfect if you're looking for a bit of coverage, but make no mistake, it is anything but boring. For SS24, swimsuits come in all shapes and prints, from '90s-inspired square cuts to '80s-style tropical prints. If you're looking for some extra support, look for pieces with a control panel.

Best High-Waisted Bikinis

High-waisted bikinis are the perfect in-between option if you want a little more coverage than your regular bikini, but aren't quite into a one-piece silhouette. There are so many varying styles around, making it easy to mix and match your favourites.

Best triangle bikinis

There's nothing quite as classic as a triangle bikini. It was the option of choice for noughties surfer girls (like Kate Bosworth in Blue Crush) and is just as popular today. If you're looking to add a little fun to your holiday wardrobe, try a bold print, or opt for a bold shade if you want to go for a more classic look.

Best Curve Swimwear:

There are so many great plus-size swimwear brands to choose from these days, that you really don't have to limit yourself. Whether you opt for a classic black one-piece or a bold, printed bikini, the choice is abundant.

Best swimwear for big busts

Needless to say, if you've got a bigger bust, support is key. You'll probably want to shop somewhere you can buy the top and bottom separately, rather than a ready-made set. Don't be afraid to go for cups as they'll give you that extra boost, and thick straps and underwires are definitely your friend.

Best Tankinis

2023 saw the resurgence of nearly every Y2K trend so it's no surprise the tankini is making a comeback fro 2024. Consisting of a vest type top and briefs, they offer all the coverage of a swimsuit yet with easier accessibility. Opt for sporty cuts or 90's inspired minimalist styles to keep the look cool and current.

Penny Goldstone is the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire, covering everything from catwalk trends to royal fashion and the latest high street and Instagram must-haves.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
