2018 is undoubtedly the year of royal babies, from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcoming Prince Louis three months ago, to Pippa Middleton announcing that she was pregnant with a baby of her own.

The most recent royal baby however came from Zara and Mike Tindall, who welcomed their second child just last month.

Lena Elizabeth Tindall is the couple’s second daughter, with Zara and Mike already sharing four-year-old Mia, who Mike called their ‘saving grace’ when the couple tragically suffered a miscarriage in 2016.

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times Magazine however, Zara revealed that she had suffered a second miscarriage ‘really early on’ shortly before falling pregnant with Lena - mourning the loss in private.

‘We had to tell everyone and it's like, everyone knows - that's the hardest bit,’ the 37-year-old explained of the experience. ‘That's why I think a lot of people don't talk about it because [a miscarriage] can happen early enough or it's only your group of friends and your family that know.’

She continued: ‘In our case, it was something that was really rare; it was nature saying, “this one's not right”, which your body does a lot, I think. I think a lot of the time you're lucky if it happens a lot earlier.’

‘It's something a lot of families are affected by but then, hopefully, a lot of the stories I've heard, they've gone on and had more children and they're very lucky,’ she went on. ‘Every case is different so I think it's something that people don't think you want to talk about.’

Zara is being praised for opening the conversation on miscarriages, something we should all continue.
