Victoria Beckham has a strong affinity with America having lived there with her family for over five years and in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings she was one of the first celebrities to express her sadness and support.

LONDON MARATHON WILL GO AHEAD DESPITE BOSTON BOMBINGS

After spending the Easter break in LA with her four children Victoria Beckham returned to home soil on Monday to the news that a bomb went off during the Boston Marathon that killed three people, injured 144 and left 17 in a critical condition.

Wanting to share her sympathies immediately, the designer tweeted: ‘Just seen the news, my thoughts are with the people of Boston x vb’

Victoria was joined by Beyoncé who heard of the bombings on the opening night of her tour, the Mrs. Carter Show in Serbia. The singer posted an image with the words ‘Pray For Boston’ on her Facebook page.

Rihanna shared a photo of a man hugging a victim of the blast with the caption: ‘Heartbreaking. #PRAY4BOSTON’. Cheryl Cole also joined in with the hashtag posting: ‘Sickened and saddened!! Thoughts go to everyone affected in Boston !! Stop this world. I want off #PrayforBoston.’

Other stars expressing their upset include Katy Perry, Jessie J and Channing Tatum.

On Monday evening President Barack Obama promised the world those responsible would ‘feel the full weight of justice,’ adding: ‘The Boston people will say a prayer for Boston tonight. We don’t know who did this or why. But make no mistake, we will get to the bottom of this.’
