Amy Winehouse tipped for Mercury success as return to limelight beckons
Amy Winehouse is hot favourite to win tonight’s Mercury Music Prize, despite weeks of making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
The singer yesterday jetted back into the UK to attend the awards after a break in the Caribbean with husband Blake. Clutching a black and white photograph of themselves at their recent wedding, the couple told worried reporters they were happy and healthy. ‘We vehemently deny the stuff about drugs,’ Blake said. ‘We admit things have been a little crazy and have to change. We’re going to sort ourselves out.’
Meanwhile, despite Amy’s in-laws urging her fans to stop buying her records, the troubled star’s latest release is actually going up in the album charts. ‘We often see that kind of scandal surrounding an artist will send sales sky high,’ a music biz insider tells the Daily Mirror.
