Winter Coats: The Marie Claire Edit

Alice Watt
Winter coats are the staple in any wardrobe, and this season we've been overwhelmed with choice. From pink to tartan, Marie Claire edits the best of 2016.

Winter coats are looking seriously good this season. We’re loving cosying up in everything from pastel pinks to statement faux fur, and with the weather as unpredictable as ever, no doubt they’ll be needed for several months yet.

The silver lining to all these wet days and dark nights finds it self in the form of beautiful new coats to wrap up in. Puffas! Parks! Yeti-like chubbies! This season’s line-up is brilliantly diverse and achingly covetable. So this edit comes with a caveat: you may find yourself wishing for extreme cold just so you an pile them on all at once.

So what’s in-store,and what do you need to know about this season’s cover-ups? Well, there’s something for everyone. Quite literally. Marie Claire has trawled the rails and online stores to handpick the best coats for every style and budget, from high street heroes that'll have you doing be a double-take on the price tag to investment winter coats you'll be cherishing for years.

New season styles to consider are the Parka (Mango), the minimalist overcoat (Marks & Spencer), and the ultra-fluffy (Shrimps). Length-wise, the longer the better. We're leaning towards maxi coats, but a cool midi style will look equally chic when teamed with cropped tailored trousers, an on-trend turtleneck and statement boots or fuss-free trainers.

On the designer front, DKNY and Acne Studios have your showstoppers, MaxMara has cleverly re-worked the modern puffa coat, while Stella McCartney has those sleek styles, perfect for your workwear wardrobe.

Wrapping up in the chilly weather just got a lot more stylish.
