Stuck for ideas? We've rounded up the most exciting events you should consider this weekend

While we welcome a free weekend every now and then for some well-earned R&R, sometimes an empty calendar isn't that desirable and you feel like you need to do something with those two days of freedom.

That's why we've curated a short and sweet list of the fun, foodie and festival themed events you should consider popping over to. Consider these the Marie Claire approved weekend destinations (no, really, you'll probably see some of us there).

Free weekend guilt, be gone.

Sip cocktails overlooking the city in The White Forest at Madison

Madison’s rooftop has transformed itself into a White Forest for the festive season. Get into the Christmas spirit with drinks, food and live music on its famous terrace and marvel at the unforgettable views of St Paul’s Cathedral and the London skyline.

In partnership with Ciroc Vodka, the team at Madison have created a delicious menu of hot cocktails and warming winter drinks. We especially loved the hot Buttered Rum, which was the perfect compliment to the indulgent sweet and savoury snacks on offer.

The White Forest at Madison runs from 6th November 2017 – 28th February 2018 at Madison London, 1 New Change, St Paul’s, London EC4M 9AF

Get the real Scandi Christmas experience at Aquavit London

Aquavit, in partnership with McQueens London, is launching the festive season in style with what could be the most iconic UK/Scandi collaboration since hygge.

Bringing Scandinavian Christmas traditions to St James’ Market, Aquavit’s interior will be filled with silver birch trees and a forest bed of natural moss, to bring a ‘serene yet festive feeling’ to their guests.

Of course, this isn’t just a feast for the eyes: you can also enjoy the signature Aquavit afternoon tea, featuring Danish smørrebrød, Swedish cakes and freshly made cinnamon and cardamom rolls. The Aquavit Nordic Winter Gardens by McQueens run from 13th November 2017 through the New Year at Aquavit, St James’s Market, 1 Carlton Street, London, SW1Y 4QQ

As Up at The O2 celebrates its 5th birthday, why not get your hiking boots on and see if you aren't thrilled by the stunning view from the top?

The climb will take you on a journey 52 metres high to the very peak of the iconic landmark formerly known as the Millennium Dome, where you'll get unprecedented access to the gorgeous London skyline.

Choose to make your way during the day, at twilight or even better - at sunset. This summer, watching the sun go down as you take in the breathtaking panoramic view of the city is a must-do.

To mark Up at The O2's birthday, groups of five looking for an adventure-packed day out in the capital will be offered a free climb for the fifth member.

Prices start at £30 for adults and children over 9 years. Book your ticket for Up at the O2 here

Drink delicious cocktails and dine in luxury at Searcys St. Pancras

weekend events

Tucked away from the busy crowds of Kings Cross station is Searcys St. Pancras Restaurant & Bar. With an opulent Gatsby-esque feel, the restaurant offers sanctuary to travellers arriving or leaving one of London's busiest train stations.

However, you don't need to be about to board the Eurostar for an excuse to visit. Pop along for a delicious 1920's inspired three course meal complete with wine pairing, and allow yourself time to relax. If you're after a drink, you can't miss the decadent cocktails - the Strawberry Cheesecake cocktail gets a huge thumbs up.

Admire the Silent Light at sketch

Sketch has somehow managed to make themselves even more Instagrammable with their new ‘Silent Light’ exhibition: a series of installations by artist Chris Levine.

The immersive light and laser experience includes 3D holographic portraits of Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, and the Queen as well as floral neon lights and a foyer crisscrossed by light beams projected from a crystal X on the ceiling.

The exhibition promises to be an ‘entrancing meditative experience’ and, after a long day of Christmas shopping, who could say no to that kind of relaxation?

Silent Light by Chris Levine runs from 16th November 2017 to 6th January, 2018 at sketch, 9 Conduit Street, Mayfair, W1S 2XG

So there you have it - whether you're after an adrenaline-filled adventure, or a night of cocktails and lasers, London has it all this weekend.

And if you really can't choose, why not do it all?
