What TV you watch really does matter if you're looking for love...

Got a ‘Netflix and Chill’ date night in the diary? You might want to think carefully about what you’re planning to watch on the box if you want it to go well…

According to a recent survey by dating site Elite Singles, a massive 71% of 18-29 year olds said that TV dates are a great idea…but only if you’ve got the same taste in shows.

63% of singles think that liking the right TV shows can make someone appear more interesting, while a whopping 82% of them say that having the same taste in TV shows makes you more attractive.

So what should we definitely NOT be watching?

Basically, any of the soaps. According to the survey, people who watch soap operas are instantly deemed less attractive, with 54% of those surveyed saying being an EastEnders fan instantly renders someone less attractive.

Similarly, 49% of people said that watching Coronation Street a dating no-no, while 22% of singletons named Doctor Who as one of their top three turn offs.

However, if you’re a big Sherlock fan, you’re in luck. The majority of participants said that liking the popular detective show makes you more attractive. Coming in second and third place were Game of Thrones and The Big Bang Theory, with comedy proving the post popular genre for a date.

And who would we most love to cuddle up with for a TV date? For British women, it was Aidan Turner (Ross Poldark in Poldark) who came out on top, followed by Idris Elba (DCI John Luther in detective drama Luther) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock).

Meanwhile, the favourite amongst British men was Billie Piper (Lily in Penny Dreadful), followed by Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell in Game of Thrones) and Kaley Cuoco (Penny from The Big Bang Theory).

On that note – one more gentle reminder. Drooling over your on-screen crush is a definite TV dating turn-off, so maybe save those series to watch on your own...
