This is why Anna Kendrick couldn't afford shoes for the Oscars

Turns out being an Oscar-nominated actress doesn't always mean riches beyond belief...

Feel like you're the only one who is always strapped for cash before pay day? Well trust us, you're not alone. Take a moment to feel for Anna Kendrick, who despite being nominated for an Oscar in 2010 was too broke to pay for shoes to wear to the awards ceremony.

Anna was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 2009 film Up In The Air alongside George Clooney – her second major Hollywood role after appearing in the Twilight series. Yet despite her success and status as an upcoming talent, Anna said that she was still flat broke.

Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres, the 31-year-old actress recalled a conversation with her stylist about what to wear for the 2010 Oscars: 'My stylist told me I had to wear the perfect shoes for an outfit, and because the movie isn't out yet, nobody really knows who you are.

'"The shoe places don't want to loan you the shoes so can you buy a pair?"

'I was like, "I’m still poor". So it was this weird combination of like all these great things are happening but at the same time nothing has changed so, it was a weird dichotomy.'

To help remedy the situation, Anna Kendrick also revealed that she had a few other brilliant ideas: 'At one point I was like, "If we do another trip to New York can you put me up in a less nice hotel room and then I could keep some of the cash?"' The answer, apparently, was a resounding no.

In fact it has been a funny old week in terms of Oscar nominees. For example, Anne Hathaway had to pretend to be happy when she accepted her Oscar because she felt 'uncomfortable' about being given an award for 'portraying pain that still felt very much a part of our collective experience as human beings'.

Looks like we can remove 'Oscar-winning actress' off our bucket list, then.
