WATCH: Rihanna for River Island collection preview

Take a behind-the-scenes look at Rihanna working on her debut clothing line for the high street store

As the launch of Rihanna's debut clothing collection for River Island edges ever closer, the high street store has released a teaser video to give fans a glimpse of the eagerly-anticipated line.

The clip shows the pop star and style icon at work in the design studio in London alongside co-designer Adam Shulman – from model fittings and inspecting material samples to never-seen-before sketches of her range.

She says: 'I've wanted to design my own fashion line for a very long time. This has been something I wanted to do ever since I started loving fashion. I just felt like every time I saw something on a rack, there was something I wanted to do to change it.'

She adds: 'So, I felt like the only way I could do that is by designing the perfect thing for me. This is my way of doing that, teaming up with River Island and designing clothes for young women, that's what I wanted to do.'

From the sneak peek we can see that the 'casual and chic' collection, which will debut with its own show during London Fashion Week next month, will feature floor-length dresses with sheer panels, slouchy floral print trousers, Breton striped tops, as well as jumpsuits and swimwear to suit 'different attitudes' and 'all body types'.

In the video, Rihanna also talks about the UK's status as a street style leader and how it inspired her to collaborate with the store.

'The high-end designers are inspired by these kids,' she says. 'They say what's cool and the designers go and design it. Why not go to the source when you want to be ahead of the trend? I wanted to create something that's inspirational, new and fresh – that's why I wanted to work with River Island.'
