The 'it' model of the spring/summer 2018 runway shows Kaia Gerber has added the role of designer to her ever growing list of fashion achievements.
The 16-year-old daughter of Cindy Crawford is teaming up with Karl Lagerfeld to create a capsule collection for his eponymous line.
The Karl Lagerfeld x Kaia collection will feature ready-to-wear and accessories, including footwear, sunglasses and jewellery, and take inspiration from Lagerfeld’s Parisian aesthetic and Gerber’s West Coast style.
"When Karl first told us his idea to collaborate with Kaia, we were all excited by the incredible potential and power of bringing their two worlds together,” Pier Paolo Righi, chief executive officer of Karl Lagerfeld, said in a statement.
“We have been working intensely over the last months with Kaia in LA and at our studio in Paris. It was exciting to see her clear vision, passion and engagement, and the collection will definitely inspire many young women."
Gerber has previously worked with Lagerfeld, opening the Chanel spring/summer 2018 show in October and later walking in the Chanel Metiers D'Art Runway in Hamburg.
The Karl Lagerfeld x Kaia collection will be launched with a series of events in LA, New York and Paris in September before launching on Karl.com. The collaboration is similar to Tommy Hilfiger's partnership with Gigi Hadid which is now in its third season. The collection, which is set to be launched with a series of events in Los Angeles, New York and Paris in September before hitting Karl Lagerfeld stores and Karl.com, is hot on the heels of Tommy Hilfiger’s collaboration with Gigi Hadid. The debut Tommy x Gigi line in September 2016 generated 900 percent increased traffic to Tommy.com in the 48 hours following the see-now-buy-now show. Their fourth season will be shown during Milan Fashion Week in February.
The news of the Karl Lagerfeld x Kaia collection comes shortly after it was revealed that Lagerfeld's personal bodyguard was also designing a capsule collection for Lagerfeld's eponymous line which was shown earlier this week during Pitti Uomo in Florence.
