Fausto Puglisi named new creative director at Emanuel Ungaro

Sicilian designer Fausto Puglisi has been tapped to helm French fashion house Emanuel Ungaro

Sicilian designer Fausto Puglisi, whose flamboyant designs are favoured by Beyonce, Madonna, Katy Perry and Anna Dello Russo, has been tapped to helm French fashion house Emanuel Ungaro.

The ailing French Fashion house, which has seen a score of creative directors in recent years, including Giles Deacon, Estrella Archs, Esteban Cortezar and Peter Dundas (none of whom lasted at the label longer than three seasons), is hoping that Puglisi can revive the label to its former glory... and help us all forget about Lindsay Lohan's destructive tenure as artistic advisor in 2009, where heart-shaped nipple pasties made an appearance on the catwalk.

The house has partnered with a new manufacturer, Italian company Aeffe, which controls brands including Moschino and Alberta Ferretti and will handle the label's global licensing and distribution.

'Emanuel Ungaro is a brand that has left a significant mark and still has a lot to say,' Massimo Ferretti, chairman of Aeffe, told WWD.

'Puglisi is a young talent with an international visibility, but with strong roots in our Latin world, and who will be able to turn it into a new and contemporary line.'

If you're not yet familiar with Puglisi by name, you've certainly seen his embellished, hyper-sexy, Roman Empire-inspired dresses on everyone from street style favourite Anna Dello Russo to Madonna, whose MDNA tour costumes were created by the designer.

M.I.A. and Beyonce have also worn the label onstage, while Katy Perry was spotted in Puglisi's neon colour-blocked dress at the pre-Grammy brunch in February 2012.

Mark your diaries: Puglisi will make his debut for Ungaro in March 2013, presenting the label's A/W 2013 collection.
