Dolce and Gabbana’s latest show is inspired by Cinderella...

If there’s one thing we’ve learnt from this Milan Fashion Week, it’s that the Italian designers love a good theme - and Dolce and Gabbana’s latest showcase is the production to end all others.

Cue their AW16 fashion fairytale, complete with golden coach, poison apple tree and princess dresses aplenty. These are the stylish happenings you need to know about…

The Set Was A Pantomime Dreamland Snow White’s wicked stepmother left her apple tree at the entrance. Aladdin’s magic carpet was laid down underfoot. And Cinderella’s enormous pumpkin coach took centre stage at the head of the runway. Before a single model had even hit the catwalk, there was no doubting what was inspiring Domenico and Stefano for AW16. Props including Sleeping Beauty’s bed were sourced from Milan’s key opera theatre, La Scala, with production head Angelo Scala hired to help the design duo turn their fashion fantasy into a reality.

There Were 95 Enchanting Looks …No less. This was, official hashtag, the #DGFabulousFantasy, a no holds barred assessment of classic princess culture and, according to the designers, a modern way to look at love. Fashion translation? Blind mice embroideries, broken ‘mirror mirror’ embellishments, teddy bear appliqués and flower garden prints. Also worth noting, it’s the second time this MFW that we’ve seen women dressed as chandeliers (we’re looking at you, Moschino).

The Soundtrack Was Like A Disney Princess’s Spotify Playlist Lily James’ vocal, A Dream is A Wish Your Heart Makes opened the show, a recording from the live action version of Cinderella she starred in last year. The show then kicked into Sia tracks, Unstoppable, Cheap Thrills and Move Your Body helpfully reminding everyone that they were watching fashion theatre, not at the actual theatre.

The Accessories Were Super-Covetable Gilded tiny trunks, solid pumpkin cases or crafty cross-stitch clutches - We can already see Dolce and Gabbana’s loyal fans going mad over these snap-worthy treats with the handbag emojis on Instagram. Another thing we're quite into? Extreme floral headdresses, to replace our old winter beanie.

The Beauty Look Was Pretty Wonderful Rosebud nail lacquer? Honey cream lipsticks? Yes the day’s catwalk beauty look was perfect match for the collection. No really, the brand’s new Blush Of Roses makeup range was launched specially for it…

The Finale Was A Stampede Of Sparkle We’re talking a blitz of crystal embellishments and fuchsia sequins. One thing’s for sure, Dolce and Gabbana sure do know how to deliver on the fashion theatricals.
