Cara Delevingne's new eponymous handbag line for Mulberry is a reflection of her own style.
In the run up to the launch of Cara Delevingne’s collection for Mulberry, the British luxury brand has released a behind-the-scenes video of the creative process that went into making the handbag.
The film sees Cara through her travels from London Paddington to Somerset, where Mulberry's flagship factory is, and documents her creative journey from the initial concept through design amends, to production.
At the factory, Cara sits at a sewing machine and gets down to business. We know the girl likes to be hands-on, and her collaborative spirit is more than apparent in this film clip. She helps choose the leathers, embellishments and the practical elements the bag needed.
‘People now don’t just do one thing. You have so many interests and hobbies and different things going on in your life. Your bag has to match that. It has to match your lifestyle. So it was kind of trying to find how many things we could do to make that bag practical,’ she explains.
The Cara Delevingne bag is a three-in-one style that can be worn as a rucksack, shoulder bag or handbag.
The bags are also a reflection of her and reference a few of her famed tattoos. One model is speckled with golden lions, and all the bags, which are made in Somerset, feature a ‘Made in England’ stamp, just as Cara has on the bottom of her foot.
As Cara says: ‘What’s the point of putting your name to something if it’s not “you”, or you haven’t really put “you” in it, you know?’
