The star designer got festive to switch on her London store's Christmas lights, with the help of Kate Moss, Alexa Chung and a few more famous pals...

Every year Stella McCartney celebrates the switching-on of the Christmas lights at her Bruton Street boutique with a star-packed bash. And yesterday it was time for her 2012 party.

A host of the designer’s famous family (dad Sir Paul and wife Nancy Shevell) and friends (Kate Moss, Alexa Chung and Emma Bunton, to name but a few!) arrived right on time, prepared for an evening of fun and frolics.

Over the year’s Ms McCartney’s switching-on ceremonies have gained rather a reputation as the festive season’s best alternative soiree.

Last year, actress Catherine Tate as her hilarious alter-ego Nan obliged, while in the past Peter Kay as Geraldine Granger and the Mighty Boosh boys have all been given the job of lighting up the store.

Last night it was the turn of Jennifer Saunders in her guise as larger-than-life Ab Fab character Eddie, who in this year’s upcoming Christmas revival of the show, is refused entry into one of Stella’s stores.

Luckily, last night the brilliant character had no such trouble and lit up the pretty lights at the designer’s boutique following a hilarious speech, before causing mischief for the rest of the evening.

How we wish we had been a fly on the wall…
