We're calling our gran ASAP.
Although Queen Elizabeth may have looked remarkably stone-faced throughout Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding recently, she’s got a very soft spot for the couple – and there’s now photographic evidence to prove it. At a recent photo call at Buckingham Palace, photographers were invited into her grand lounge and keen-eyed royalists quickly fixated on an adorable detail.
In one photo of the Queen in her natural setting, there were two nondescript side tables in the background stacked with photo frames of her family. The foremost picture appears to be a never before seen portrait Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, a.k.a. the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
It’s a move that any proud grandparent would pull and a super cute humanising touch, breaking up the stiff opulence of the royal residence. Of course, Meghan and Harry aren’t the only ones featured and we spotted at least five frames filled with what look to be family photographs.
Even though the Queen’s vast collection of family pictures is utterly relatable and something you’d expect from your own gran, she’s shown her own affection for the couple in decidedly royal fashion as well. For example, she had to give her formal consent to her ‘most dearly beloved grandson’ and Meghan Markle’s union in an official public statement.
It seems like Meghan has well and truly found a spot in Queen Liz’s heart, if the photo is anything to go by. It’s not just the Queen and Prince Harry she’s won over, as apparently she’s helped repair Prince Harry and Prince Charles’ relationship and her new father-in-law even walked her down the aisle on her big day.
Given that the Queen is – well – the Queen, it’s easy to forget that she’s also a grandmother (and now great grandmother) with a huge family. We’re still tickled by the idea that Prince Harry and Prince William apparently call her granny…maybe don’t call her that if you wind up meeting her in person though.
