Michelle Obama has finally joined Twitter.
The First Lady opened her own account on the micro-blogging site yesterday and within hours had gained over 70,000 followers.
Her first tweet read: 'Hi, everyone, and thanks for the warm welcome. Look forward to staying in touch with you here.'
Michelle's new account is mainly going to be used as a tool in President Obama's re-election campaign and the majority of posts will be made by their staff.
After Michelle's initial tweet, an aide wrote: 'We're excited today to launch @michelleobama as a new way for you to connect with First Lady Michelle Obama and the President's campaign.'
This was followed by: 'This account will be managed by campaign staff, with any tweets from the First Lady herself signed "-mo."'
Her husband, or at least someone writing on behalf of her husband, was quick to welcome Michelle to Twitter.
The President wrote: 'It’s not every day we get to welcome the First Lady of the United States to Twitter - happy to have you, @MichelleObama!'
Michelle, just in case you fancy giving us a follow, we're @marieclaireuk!
