What Meghan Markle said about choosing a career instead of having children

Meghan Duchess of Sussex

As Meghan Markle prepares to celebrate Christmas with the royal family, she's probably getting ready to take part in all of their quirky traditions - like the post-dinner weigh-in and their hilarious gift exchanges.

All eyes are on her this year, as not only is she due to give birth to her first child in the Spring but she has also been dealing with an onslaught of negativity in recent weeks. The Duchess of Sussex has been criticised for cradling her bump 'too much', blamed for her personal assistant quitting, and it has been alleged that she is feuding with Kate Middleton.

She has also received a chilling warning from her sister, Samantha Markle, and her dad has appeared on TV to beg for her forgiveness.

But putting all of the negativity behind her, Meghan attended a residential nursing home in London. She spoke to residents of the Royal Variety Brinsworth House, set up to 'assist those who have worked professionally in the entertainment industry and are in need of help and assistance as a result of old age, ill-health, or hard times.'

Speaking to one resident, Meghan asked: 'Do you have kids?'

'No I don't, I had a career,' she replied.

'Yes, that I understand,' Meghan said.

Meghan's fans loved her empathetic response.

One wrote: 'I love that she is shining a light to where it’s needed.'

Another added: 'We are lucky that today we can have both because it wasn’t that long ago when literally you had to make a choice!'
