Kate Middleton and Prince William enjoyed a romantic stay in an exclusive £785 a night resort during their time on the South Pacific isle of Tavanipupu, it has been revealed.

Enjoying some alone time, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge snorkelled under the stars and dined alone on their deck, away even from their private body guards.

After a whirl wind of public engagements and formal dinners, we're not surprised Prince William and Kate Middleton made the most of a little R&R.

According to insiders, the lucky couple were treated to Pina Colada cocktails on arrival, before dining alone on their private jetty.

A source said of their visit: 'It was utterly beautiful and they enjoyed themselves immensely.'

Pamela Kimberly, the resort's co-owner, revealed of meeting Prince William and Kate Middleton: 'I was astounded at how down to Earth and lovely they were. They just seemed to love it. They were happy and relaxed.

'When they arrived, we gave them a pina colada each made from rum, fresh pineapple juice and coconut cream. William liked it so much, we gave him another one. He had two, she had one.'

'They got straight into the snorkelling and saw lots of beautiful fish. They were just swimming and enjoying the island. They had dinner on their own private jetty. This morning they walked out on the big dock.

'At least the weather was glorious for them this morning. Last night it poured down for hours. But that did not stop William and Kate wanting to eat outdoors beneath a bamboo gazebo at the end of their jetty.

'They had some shelter but that's not completely waterproof, I can tell that but they just wanted to be outside,'

'They couldn't have been more complimentary about the island. They said they would definitely tell their friends about it. And that meant a lot to us.

Despite their royal status, it seems the royal couple were anything but demanding.

Kimberly added: 'It's not a huge house. It's not Buckingham Palace by a long stretch

'I really wanted them to feel like they had everything they need. The fridge is fully stocked, the finest champagne, fresh fruit platter, high-tech cappuccino machine… I had a bladeless fan system installed above their bed.'

She added: 'We've had all sorts of requests from VIPs. People who have wanted to bring private chefs, fly in furniture and so on. But the Duke and Duchess are so down to earth. They haven't asked for one thing.'
