The normally reserved Justin Theroux smiled and waved to photographers as he stepped out for the first time since announcing his engagement to Jennifer Aniston.

Clearly over the moon and happily acknowledging the well wishes from the paparazzi, Theroux went about his business in the East Village with an extra spring in his step over the weekend.

It was the first time the 41-year-old has been seen in public since he popped the question to Jen, his girlfriend of 18 months, at the Blue Hill restaurant in Greenwich Village last week.

Aniston, 43, has been busy filming We're The Millers in North Carolina, so we're yet to see a glimpse of her engagement ring but sources say that Theroux splashed out on a huge emerald-cut diamond sparkler.

An insider told Life & Style magazine: 'It's a huge emerald-cut diamond. It's a rectangle with tapered diamond baguettes on the sides. It's beautiful.

'Just after Jen got engaged, she called all her friends and told them about it. She was so happy and said she loves the ring. I think she was overwhelmed and overjoyed by the size and beauty of it!'
