Jennifer Lopez has opened up on Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' shock split, revealing she was 'stunned' when she heard the news, and is 'so sad' for the couple.

Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jen said of the breakdown of Tom and Katie's marriage: ‘I heard about it when I was in South America and I was stunned.’

Referring to her own experiences, the songstress, who split with hubby Marc Anthonyjust a year ago, spoke of her sadness at Tom and Katie's decision to divorce, revealing they are 'both really lovely people'.

'I'm sad for them,' she said. 'They're both really lovely people, and just like Marc and I, it's not what you want to happen. You fight and you try until you realise you can't anymore.’

‘I just wish them peace in their decision. And really for Suri and their other children as well, because you become such a family, it's not just Suri, it's Connor and Isabella and everybody, you know, you all become a family.

‘And when that breaks apart, nobody wins; everybody's heartbroken in some way. And I just wish them peace.’

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes reached a divorce settlement earlier this week - just eleven days after announcing their split - with Katie Holmes reportedly petitioning for primary custody of Suri.

Although Tom and Katie have declined to reveal the terms of the settlement, it's thought their daughter Suri Cruise will reside in New York with Katie Holmes, but make weekly visits to Tom Cruise, accompanied by her nanny and bodyguards. 

t has also been reported Suri 'isn't permitted to be exposed to anything Scientology-related' during the trips.

'Katie insisted that Suri's nanny and bodyguards always accompany her when she visits Tom,' one insider told US gossip site Radar.

'Suri is Katie's number one priority. Tom only has Scientologists that work for him and Katie insisted that her staff will always be with their daughter.'
