Downton Abbey series three comes to a conclusion this weekend, desperate to know a little more about what’s in store for Sunday’s show, Marie Claire caught up with Ed Speleers who plays footman, Jimmy Kent in the hit series.
While Downtown storylines are a closely guarded secret, we did manage to extract from Ed a little about what’s in store for his character.

When asked how we’d react to the ending, be it laughing, or crying, Ed told us: ‘Hopefully all of that. I hope people see enough depth in my character to see the good side and the bad side we haven’t seen yet.’
This promptly got us excited about Jimmy’s return in season three, which suggests another of Downton Abbey’s staff must go instead. Pulling Ed up on this, we asked if we’d get to witness the ‘depth’ of Jimmy in series four, Ed simply smiled and said: ‘Will we? I don’t know yet.’
We’re taking that to mean yes!

While Ed relishes in his new role, he’s also busy promoting his latest acting efforts on the silver screen, Love Bite – a teen comedy thriller about werewolves starring Gossip Girl’s Jessica Szohr.

Ed also spoke about the honour it is to be part of the Downton Abbey cast too though, praising his co-stars in particular Jim Carter (Mr Carson) and Rob James Collier (Thomas Barrow). Not one to forget his new army of fans, the actor also added: ‘It’s a dream to have so many people so passionate about what you’re doing.’
With the formality of Downton, we had to ask Ed, if he’d ever messed up on set, and he admitted he did telling us: ‘A week into filming I had to pick up a tray of china quickly and march down the servants hall.
‘The whole thing went flying, Rob (Thomas) comes round the corner and says “I’ve been here three years, that’s never happened to me.” Now they have to tape everything down and baby proof it for me.’
What do you think about Ed's character, Jimmy returning to the next series of Downton Abbey? Is he your favourite character? Let us know below.
