Autumn's Denim Trends Are Already Surfacing—Here Are the Cuts, Colours and Details to Know Now
From boldly coloured jeans to peplum denim jackets, these are the trends to note for our favourite fabric
Ah, denim, the dutiful fabric that never fails. It stretches across every season, every personal style preference and, if the latest trends are anything to go by, every occasion. Yet while it has a stronghold on many of our everyday wardrobes, small changes in cut, colour and kind of product can make it feel either far more of the moment or decidedly dated. And so I bring you the Autumn/Winter 26 denim trends to take note of now, as they journey from the runway right down into your favourite everyday stores.
The key message to take away? Fun is at the forefront. Think boldly coloured jeans, peplum-shaped denim jackets and a scattering of sequins. Though more formal-fitting shapes are seeping through too: a knife-edge straight leg and dress designs that could venture into the office. Stretching the ways in which to wear denim—and the occasions to don it—to far more than just a T-shirt and trainers.
But it's worth noting these are all denim looks we've seen before, with designers reaching back into their not-too-distant archives to revive trends of years, even decades, gone by. Not reinventing the wheel, simply repackaging it. Scroll on to see how.
5 Autumn/Winter 2026 Denim Trends to Consider Now
Alternative Colours
Baum Und Pferdgarten, Chloé, Isabel Marant AW26
There may be no shortage of the sea of blue denim before us, but some brighter, more unsual shades are stepping into the limelight too: purple, yellow and red among them, all working to liven up our everyday wardrobes. Though this is far from a new trend, of course. Cast your mind back to around 2012 and you probably had your own colour wheel of different jean shades to choose from. The bolder, the better.
Red, in particular, has already taken off, spotted on some of the most fashionable women on the internet. And it's easy to see the appeal: all the comfort of a classic jean, with the added benefit of being instantly eye-catching. With no shortage of shades to pick from, which one you choose comes down purely to personal preference.

Denim, Meet Ruffles
Sacai, Dior, Juun J AW26
Rather than rigid, linear pattern cutting, Autumn/Winter '26 puts femininity in full focus for denim. From flippy peplums to ruffled skirts, the humble fabric is being used in ways that are full, voluptuous and soft.
This is a trend that surprisingly endures. Liberowe's peplum denim jacket and Marques'Almeida's signature ruffled denim are not new and yet still entirely current.

Super Straight and Super Dark
Khaite, Calvin Klein, Balenciaga AW26
"Can you wear jeans to the office?" is the question behind every somewhat strict workwear dress code—and this season, the answer is a resounding yes. So long as you opt for the smartest of cuts: the super-straight. Bonus points if you can iron a crisp fold down the front.
While barrel and wide-leg cuts may have taken centre stage for the past few seasons, Khaite, Calvin Klein and Balenciaga are putting this more formal slim-leg faithful back in the spotlight. Suddenly, every outfit feels that bit more sophisticated, especially in a dark wash.

Dramatic Denim Dresses
Huishan Zhang, Zimmermann, Dries Van Noten AW26
If the term denim dress conjures up images of short smocks and dungaree-like designs, the Autumn/Winter runways are here to challenge those ultra-casual characteristics, stretching the confines of just how far denim can go. Think office-friendly fits, longer lengths and materials that aren't actually denim, just made to look like it.
Zimmermann's draped design acts as the blueprint for the elevated denim dress, and a number of brands have already adopted each of its elements: midi lengths, voluminous skirts and a dark wash that feels effortlessly elegant.

Sequins and Studs
Dior, Stella McCartney AW26
Hands up, who has embellished jeans already sitting at the back of the wardrobe? Possibly piled on top of a silver pair that were equally popular around the same time. I certainly do. So you'll be pleased to know they're already poised for a quick comeback, all thanks to Jonathan Anderson and Stella McCartney.
Sequins, diamantes, studs, feathers—essentially anything goes, so long as it livens up a classic blue cut. And if you missed the trend the first time around, there are already a number of embellished styles to buy into now, with many more predictably on the way.
