  • Rumour has it the starlet could be up for a lead role, opposite dancer pal Derek Hough

No sooner had news of a Dirty Dancing remake hit, then Hollywood was abuzz with rumours over which sure-footed stars would earn lead roles in the film.

But it seems we could already have our answer. Cheryl Cole’s dancer pal Derek Hough is reportedly up for a main part, and, according to reports is on a mission to convince bosses to hire Mrs C as well.

It’s thought Derek – who is already a frontrunner for the part – sent movie execs tapes of him dancing with Cheryl to steamy track Parachute on stage last year.

And now reports suggest the dancer is trying to convince bosses his Brit pal would be perfect for the part.

‘Derek submitted a DVD of him dancing with Cheryl at her O2 show when she supported The Black Eyed Peas last year,’ one insider told the Sun. ‘He wanted producers to see their chemistry.

‘He also put in a copy of Cheryl’s video for her single Parachute, to show how good a dancer she is.’

Choreographer for the original 1987 cult classic Kenny Ortega, confirmed he will direct a modern remake of the film last week.

Initially it was rumoured Justin Timberlake or even Justin Bieber could get their hands on Patrick Swayze’s part, while Glee’s Lea Michele actress Emma Stone and Disney star Miley Cyrus have all been tipped for the role of Baby, originally played by Jennifer Grey.
