Reese Witherspoon visits Asia for Avon
Reese Witherspoon has taken Avon’s global fundraising campaign East, on a visit to Japan this week.
In her role as the beauty giant’s Global Ambassador, Witherspoon travelled to Tokyo this week, where she donned a traditional kimono and took part in a Japanese tea ceremony.
Following the ceremony, the Legally Blonde actress met with breast cancer survivors, and launched the Avon Women’s Empowerment bracelet.
Commenting on her trip, Ms Witherspoon said, ‘As Avon’s Global Ambassador, I’m honored to have this opportunity to meet with such extraordinary women, and experience a highlight of Japanese culture.’
Avon has raised more than $525 million globally for breast cancer research since its started a campaign in 2002. The bracelet is its first ever-worldwide initiative.
Proceeds from the bracelet will support the Avon Empowerment Fund, which contributes to the UNIFEM-managed UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women. Avon has pledged to match the first $500,000 made by sales of the £1.50 bracelet, to make a $1 million donation to the fund.
