Vanessa Hudgens is suffering for her art - or at least her hair is! The actress has shed her long locks for new movie, Gimme Shelter, debuting a choppy pixie cut.

Stepping out at the Captain America premiere last night, the 22-year-old actress showed off her new 'do, which is part of the dramatic make-under she has undergone to portray a pregnant homeless teen in her gritty new movie.

A far cry from the glossy curls that became her signature when she found fame in Disney's High School Musical movies, Vanessa revealed her new look is taking some getting used to.

'Oh man, it’s really intense. I’m still getting used to it,' she told Access Hollywood. 'Honestly, I kind of feel like a soccer mom, but we’re going to let that go. There’s nothing wrong with soccer moms, but I’m only 22!'

And forget heading to the stylist for her new look - Vanessa revealed she did all the cutting herself: 'I grabbed the scissors and started cutting my actual hair and then my director decided that he was going to grab the scissors. He grabs a chunk of my hair and just chops it.'
