Is that really you, Vanessa Hudgens? We couldn’t quite believe our eyes when we spied new snaps of the High School Musical hottie on the set of her latest movie earlier today.

Gone were the lovely long locks and designer dresses – and in their place baggy, shapeless clothes, a rough, choppy crop and painful-looking lip ring.

Talk about a make under!

But we’re relieved to say Miss Hudgens hasn’t completely taken leave of her style senses – her dramatic new look is all in aid of new movie Gimme Shelter.

The LA lovely has been hard at work on the new movie - about a pregnant teenager who is forced to live on the streets - in LA in recent months.

And yesterday the 22-year-old starlet took to Twitter to explain her new role to fans.

'I'm so excited and proud of the work I've been doing and let me tell you, you all are going to be SHOCKED with how I look in this movie,’ she wrote.

'It's crazy sauce. Lol only one more week of shooting till I'm done! Xx V.'
