Forget the honeymoon, babymooning is the hottest new travel trend.

Pioneered by some of the world’s most luxurious hotels, babymooning is aimed at expectant couples wanting a little quality time together before their newborn arrives.

With spa treatments for the mum-to-be and golf for the guys, a babymoon is primarily about plenty of rest and relaxation before the sleepless nights kick in.

The five-star InterContinental Mar Menor resort in Spain is one of the hotels hoping to lure young couples with promises of special his-and-her spa treatments in a private room amid fabulous surroundings.

‘More and more couples are deciding to have their first child much later when they are more accustomed to life’s little luxuries,’ says a spokesperson for the hotel. ‘A Babymoon is the perfect opportunity to enjoy some quality time together and to reflect upon the new challenges and exciting life changing experience ahead without the pressures of everyday life getting in the way. The InterContinental Mar Menor is the perfect place to relax and unwind and we want to offer parents-to-be a package that recognises this very special and important time.’

However, for those who can’t fly in the latter stages of their pregnancy, there are plenty of hotels in the UK also promising TLC on tap for nervous first-time parents.

Mother-to-be Abbie Moore was planning a babymoon with her husband before the birth of their first child, but was warned by her midwife flying was not a good idea. Still set on the idea of a pre-baby holiday, the couple went to the Lake District and enjoyed the delights of the British countryside instead.
