Sorry, girls, looks like jumpsuits are here to stay (for one more season at least)
When I wrote on Sunday about needing a holiday after seeing one too many jumpsuits each season, I was kind of joking. Surely after nearly two years as the must-include catwalk piece for pretty much every designer, you’d have thought they would be parked at the back of the closet (sorry, wardrobe, have been in NYC one day too many and started sawpping all my English fashion words for American ones) until the next Seventies revival.
Those of you who bought into the trend will be relieved to know they’re hanging around for spring/summer 2010 as well.
Badgley Mischka put them front and centre today, albeit high-end Shantung silk versions more suitable for cocktail hour than an evening out with friends, while Max Azria and Halston had also seen fit to include them in their collections. And, yes, with the jumpsuits came the playsuits, at Halston at least where the Gossip Girl favourite got a Studio 54 makeover in white gold shimmering lame.
The real proof jumpsuits haven’t fallen off the fashion raydar yet is the number of women on the front rows actually wearing them; I spotted no less than five within three shows today.
Looks like this trend is here to stay.
