Anyone got a spare £5 million?

Being the Queen has its advantages, with the monarch having personal chefs, someone to break in her shoes for her and not one but two birthdays.

But it wasn’t these that made Queen Elizabeth headline news this week, but rather her property, with one of the Queen’s former homes put up for sale.

No, it’s not Buckingham Palace, or Balmoral, or Windsor Castle for that matter. Instead, the house in question is her former Malta home, Villa Guardamangia. And it could be yours for a cool £5.3 million.

Fans of The Crown will know that the royal couple lived in Malta part-time in the early years of their marriage, between 1949 and 1951, during which Prince Philip served on HMS Chequers as part of the Royal Navy Mediterranean Fleet.

The 1,560sqm villa, on the outskirts of Valletta, is more like a mansion than a house, boasting six bedrooms, three bathrooms and a huge sitting room.

Having the Queen as a former resident however is undoubtedly its main selling point, with the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh even given a watercolour painting of their former house during their 2015 visit to Malta.

‘Visiting Malta is always very special for me,’ the Queen recalled during the visit. ‘I remember happy days here with Prince Philip when we were first married.’

If you’ve got £5 million spare, happy house hunting.

If not, same.
