Adele has been recognised by the royal family for her services to music, after being named an MBE on the Queen's birthday honours list.

The super-songstress, who bagged an Oscar for her performance in Skyfall back in January, joined a host of other famous names on the rollcall, which was announced over the weekend.

Topping off what has been an incredible year for the singer, who not only won her first Academy Award, but also welcomed her first child, Adele takes up the title at just 25 years old.

It's thought her musical achievements, including having the best-selling album in the world for two years running were influential in her being given the award.

Adele is joined on the honours list by sports presenter Clare Balding, who was appointed OBE for services to broadcasting and journalism, writer Jackie Collins, golfer Paul Lawrie, GQ editor Dylan Jones and author Kate Mosse.

Meanwhile, comedian Rob Brydon, singer Aled Jones, and songwriter PJ Harvey received MBEs, and artist Grayson Perry and Dragon's Den star Hilary Devey all received CBEs.

Congrats, Adele!
