Issey Miyake
Japanese designer Issey Miyake studied graphic design before turning his hand to fashion, which may help those unfamiliar with his work understand his innovative cut and scultural garments. In the late 80s Miyake's experimentaion with pleating led to a new technique entitled garment pleating, which resulted in the Pleats Please label launched in 1993.
Though the designer handed over the entire design side of the business to Naoki Takizawa in 1999, his legacy continued and Miyake's style and influence is clearly still apparent. In 2007, a new Creative Director was appointed, Dai Fujiwara, after Takizawa left to form his own label.
