Here’s where you’ve seen it before

Yesterday the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William attended the Centenary of Passchendaele Commemorations in Belgium, to mark 100 years since the start of the battle in Ypres, which saw many die during World War One.

Kate wore a white Alexander McQueen coat dress with a matching hat, and if the coat looked familiar to you, it’s because you’ve seen it before.

She first wore it for Princess Charlotte's christening in 2015, though with a different hat and shoes.

This time round, Kate wore grey suede heels, while for the baptism, she chose champagne satin pumps instead.

Although she wore pendant earrings in 2015, this time around, she embellished her outfit with a pearl brooch (a symbol of wisdom and purity) and a poppy, which has been widely used to commemorate the fallen, representing the fields of poppies in France.

It’s not the first time Kate has recycled an outfit, and she is often praised for doing it, showing she can be just as frugal as the rest of us.

She wore a white Roland Mouret floor-length dress she wore at a private dinner in 2012, and then again at a movie premiere in 2013, this time paired with a Zara necklace.

There is also a DAY Birger et Mikkelsen champagne coat dress she wore in 2006, 2011 and 2012 at various engagements, a blue and white floral L.K.Bennett dress she wore on tour in Australia in 2014, and then again at a charity visit in 2016.

Penny Goldstone is the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire, covering everything from catwalk trends to royal fashion and the latest high street and Instagram must-haves.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
